Rain poured heavily on Sunday, a sight that’s quite rare in this specific area of the Kingdom during summer. Two million pilgrims endured the rain and welcomed it as a beautiful way to welcome the Hajj season.

The Hajj is (sometimes) a once-in-a-lifetime pious duty that every able Muslim takes part in. It consists of traveling to Saudi Arabia and engaging in a five-day ritual of worship.

The heavy raining and thunderstorms started after sunset and lasted less than an hour

Social media showed scenes of the downpour over at Makkah last night.

Pilgrims took cover in tent; also trudging through puddles

According to several reports, pilgrims were warned by the Saudi Civil Defence of a possible flood throughout the night.

A statement that the Saudi General Meteorological and Environmental Protection Agency added onto, asking worshippers not to sit on mountain tops due to the pressure of the winds.

Although the rain’s sudden entrance was unexpected, pilgrims still took on the moment to appreciate the peace that the sounds of the rain brought upon.
